My earliest encounter with a dog was with Benji the boxer, who my parents got to act as a guard dog when they were out living in the countryside. My mother used to go shopping with me in the pram, and leave Benji outside on guard while she picked up the groceries. Unfortunately Benji was getting on a bit on years and eventually became overzealous in guarding me, which resulted in almost everyone apart from my mother being kept away from the pram. The boxer is definitely one of the more loyal dog breeds.

While bulldogs are very popular subjects, it seems as though boxers are not so common in illustration, despite having a similarly charismatic face. Maybe I should do something to remedy this!
